Cabin #7 - "Waugoshance"
A hybrid word, combining the Anishinaabemowin word wah'goosh (fox) and the French word anse (cove). This 2 bedroom, 528 sq ft cabin is named after a nearby peninsula off the northwest coast of Michigan's lower peninsula.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the early 1950's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and air conditioning wasn’t even thought of at that time. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.
All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.
This cabin is 528 sq ft and sleeps a family of 6 utilizing 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and a futon in the living room. There's a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 9’x6’ enclosed porch overlooking the lake is the perfect spot to watch the fishing boats go out during the morning sunrise.
Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Great view of the lake! Very private. Within a 10-15 minute drive of Mackinac tourist attractions. Good spot to fish. If you’re up to it, ask your host about boat rentals.
Enjoyed our stay, was exactly what my family was looking for.. Thanks so much..
Good place
Amazing place to stay.
it was only a single night's stay but we thoroughly enjoyed it
Ritchie's description was spot on. I would stay again. We mostly used the cabin as a base while sightseeing. Overall a nice place to relax.
Good location. Very unhygienic. Floor, bathroom and carpet are dirty. Dog and cat hair on blankets. Host is friendly and check in is smooth.
We adored Ritchie’s cabins. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. The views upon waking up, looking out to the lake are spectacular. Sitting on the screened porch and enjoying the peace is something I wish I could do everyday. Stay here- you’ll be happy you did
This cabin is located only 10 minutes from Mackinaw city which is perfect! The cabin itself is cute and cozy with a beautiful view of the lake. We loved the fire pit and the fact that we could bring our dog with us as well! Great price as well!
This cabin is definitely rustic, but very conveniently located and well-supplied for an overnight stay. The location on the lake is pretty, and the screened porch was great. Ritchie met us when we arrived and check-in was very smooth. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!
The cabin is very rustic... no air conditioning, screens missing on half the windows, no ceiling fans and screen doors that don't close with no latches. The dishes were moldy, the bathroom shower needs shoes to keep your feet clean, and the floors are dirty to be nice. The old asbestos tiles were pried up but nothing put down in its place which is concerning. If you walk thru the house in just your socks they will be black and gross. While standing in the shower you can reach up and touch the only light in the room. The screened patio and the views make the place but only if you can overlook everything else.
Really great host and location.
Ritchie was a great host. The place was just what we needed. And the Lake was So Beautiful!
Beautiful cabin with a beautiful view. Suitable for the warmer season but still a beautiful place to stay.
It’s a cabin on a lake. If you want beautiful sunrises and sunsets and time in the lake, it can’t be beat.
Great spot to escape or explore! Pack some house shoes/slippers for minimizing dirt tracked in and to keep your feet warm on the floor when hanging out in the cabin.
Love this cabin!
I stayed at the end of March 2022. I really enjoyed the way the cabin is heated with a clear gas stove/fireplace - honestly my favorite feature. I was doing some intensely painful physical therapy and it was sooooooo nice to be able to just gaze into the flames and take my mind to a different place.
Great weekend away place! Very clean and cozy.
cute place, more than i was expecting, well run
We had a great time! Awesome place!
Ritchie's place was great! Classic up some what rustic up north cabin. Fireplace was nice and cozy.
I recommend bringing slippers or shoes to wear in the cabin in the winter time to keep feet warm, floors are a little chilly. Will book again!
Perfect for a cozy stay while skiiing in the area. Ritchie is a great host and made the check in process super easy. We will definitely be back again!
Amazing views of the lake, extremely accommodating. Super friendly as well, we would for sure stay here again.
Ritchie's place is rustic and simple. He has a list of things to bring with you that is helpful for planning. We enjoyed the location and that there were 2 places to get carry out food very close by.
Excellent place, quiet, right on the lake. The lake is perfect with great views. The stars pop at night. Such a fun place. Ritchie makes you feel like family. Already planning to go back. Cabin was great.
Wonderful little cabin on Carp Lake. We had a lovely visit and Ritchie was there to greet us! The only negative was the shower, it definitely needs an update. Otherwise everything else was great!
Ritchie is a great host! This is my second time staying at his cabins and it’s like I was an old friend when I pulled in. He greeted me and made sure I had everything I needed. The fire pit and back porch is absolutely perfect for night and day time. Highly recommend this cozy cabins.
Great location, quiet and right on the water. The cabins are close together but that’s to be expected with this type of rental. It’s nice to have an affordable option that allows dogs. We found it to be clean and cosy-anyone complaining about that needs to understand that it’s a rustic *cabin*, not a fancy cottage. I liked the gas fireplace too.
Great stay beautiful location very close to mackinaw city
Our stay at Ritchie’s place was booked only a day in advance. Ritchie was there to meet and greet us and was a pleasant, communicative and a helpful host.
We were not impressed with the cleanliness of anything. The bathroom is in bad need of improvements, an exterior door in disrepair that would would not close and floors that were gritty and dirty underfoot. We do not know about the other cabins, just cabin #7.
This cabin looked like it was in the middle of a renovation. Very uncomfortable shower. Not worth the money even though adequately clean. The surroundings resembled a junk yard.
Always would recommend the visit here
The cabin is nice for men to use for fishing, but not as a couple's getaway. The cabin needs updated.
Great stay super close to everything we wanted to do and see.
A quiet resting place near Mackinac Island
Loved it especially the view
My girlfriend and I both very much enjoyed our stay. The cabin was cozy and exactly as advertised. The indoor heating system was excellent. We loved being able to have a campfire outside overlooking the lake.
Nice location
This was the perfect little cabin for me and my boyfriend to relax at for a few days. Richie had great hospitality and communication, and the cabin was homey and cozy. I definitely recommend booking a stay!
An authentic cabin experience with a fire pit right next to the lake! Loved the peace and quiet. When it rained, we stayed in and played cards, watched movies and enjoyed the cozy warmth of the cabin!
Cute little place right on the lake. Short drive to shops and attractions.
Came here for a great, quiet week away from the world! Really nice, cozy space.
Rustic but comfortable, glad dogs are welcome & the lake is amazing
Classy Rustic, complete with lakeview porch and Roku
Such a nice stay! Very up north feel. Beautiful views, basic amenities but had everything we needed. Great burger joint a quick walk across the street. Ritchie was super nice and had a pleasant and quick check in. Loved the pet friendly aspect. A little chilly in the bedrooms but very manageable. Would definitely stay again.
All in all, it was a good place to stay. We loved the backyard view overlooking the lake and sunrise. I was expecting a nicer bed, it’s definitely not meant for all and the blankets were so bad, I recommend bringing your own comforters. Overall look was okay, flooring was very dirty that we had our footware on during our entire stay.
great location
Had a wonderful time and the cabin was perfect! Really enjoyed the location! Close to everything!
Great little cabin on the lake !
Amazing little cabin off the lake. Great spot if you wanted to fish without going very far. Great local eatery across the road. 10/10 would recommend!
It was so nice to get away for a couple days, we drove around to different areas during the day but we would’ve been just as happy just sitting by the fireplace all day. Would definitely stay there again!
Ritchie was great. Place was super cool. would rent again
Charming, clean, authentic old cabin dream in a great location.
An affordable accommodation not far from Mackinac City with access to Mackinac Island. Clean, friendly, beautiful lake view with rustic northern feel. Furniture clean, comfortable. You can tell cabins are being updated but it was perfect for what we needed.
My best friend and I take an "annual" trip every year. We always look for small, private, cabins with great access to the water. This place fits the bill. Ritchie's cabins are old and humble in the nicest way. Our cabin was clean and inviting. He even gifted us with some starter logs to get our fire going! We hope to return next year!
Place was okay and homie.
