Cabin #5 - "Mitigwa"
Mitigwa is a Native American word meaning "Maker of Men". This adorable little 1 bedroom cabin at 280 sq ft is a favorite among couples or those looking to share an intimate getaway.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the early 1930's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and air conditioning wasn’t even thought of at that time. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.
All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.
This 1 bedroom cabin is 280 sq ft and sleeps 2 people in a queen size bed. There's a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 10’x6’ enclosed porch overlooking the lake. Perfect for spending a quiet evening with a loved one.
Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Convenient work remote friendly cozy cabin with responsive host and secure facilities.. Relaxing waterfront and fireplace!
Thank you
We loved this stay, the cabins are beautifully positioned right on the water, with great views of lake paradise. We rented kayaks from Ritchie, and enjoyed our time on the lake. We also thoroughly enjoyed the cafe down the street! Great stay, cozy cabin, wonderful views!
Everything was perfect for a little one day getaway!!!
Ritchie provided a peaceful property and cozy cabin. Pictures and description are extremely accurate. He introduced himself upon arrival , went over how to check in, and local places to get food. Great communication and hospitality!
I have stay here several times, I love this place is modest with all that you can need for your stay. Bring some wood for a fire and enjoy the lake scenery.
Thanks Raquel. It's always a pleasure having you return. Did you know that I sell firewood onsite? I'm sorry, I guess I didn't realize you weren't aware of that.
I love this tiny little space with the closed in back porch, fire pit and it’s seated on the water in the shade. Don’t look for amenities but I would definitely recommend it.
Had a fantastic personal retreat out at Carp Lake! Lake was beautiful, cabin nicely situated, wonderful time all around.
I did find the bath towels to be a bit rough, and the dish towels weren’t super great at drying, so if you have strong feelings about your towels bring your own.
Overall I had a fantastic stay and would 100% come again!!
Wonderful place to stay! It was right on the lake. The cabin was exactly as described and it was a great place to stay while exploring the sites in the surrounding area.
Ritchie communicated well and we overall had a great time at his cabin !!
Cozy cabin with an awesome sunrise view.
Nice place to stay. The lake is literal steps from the cabin and a nice fire pit by the lake.
We loved staying in Ritchie’s little cabin! The lake is beautiful and the cabin is cozy. Everything you could need.
We loved our stay! Definitely the bare necessities so be sure to bring everything and reference the packing list before heading out. It was a gorgeous area and we had a great get away from the hustle and bustle of life.
THANKS
An "Up North" Michigan cabin experience. It was exactly what I was expecting. A bucket list stay.
Checkin was simple as well as check out.
Great location to relax before i went to Mackinaw Island. Cabin had everything you need. Great relaxing overnight stay.
Lakeside Cabins "a little piece of paradise" had a quaint, quiet, peaceful environment. We arrived late to a warm, fireplace lit cabin that welcomed us right in. The cabin was rustic and cozy. Paradise Lake is right out the backdoor of the cabin. We would hear the loons and the waves. We cooked and roasted marshmellows on the outside firepit. The cabin had everything you need to make it a great visit. Easy assess on and off the highway to Mackinaw City, Headlands International Dark Sky Park, McGulpin Point Lighthouse and Beach (there is a trail to the lighthouse from the beach), and a beautiful scenic hour drive to the largest waterfall in the UP (Tahquamenon Falls). After we visited the Falls, we went to Sault Ste. Marie and watch an international ship travel through the lock and dam. Must see, by ferry, to Machinac Island! We spent the whole day there on a carriage ride/ tour, Butterfly House, and trails. Ritchie was great at answering all our questions before the trip.
It was our first time in a cabin and we love it and felt right at home. It was cozy and warm just like the description. The place was clean and also has a very peaceful lake. Also, the host was very helpful, easy to reach, and friendly. Would definitely come again.
we have stayed a 3 of the 5 cabins great host and location
will continue to visit
Very much enjoyed the cabin experience for a night here as a part of our road trip across the country. Would come back!
We LOVED this cabin. It is so cute and felt a lot larger than its size. It is truly adorable and had the basic amenities needed (as described) for a home-like stay. The two gas fireplaces kept us plenty warm even through a cold, rainy storm day. The lake view is unbelievably beautiful; I wish we could have gotten in! Still a 5 star stay, but the water did occasionally have a slight egg/sulphur smell and my niece could not stand it. But it tasted fine to me, and I only smelled it occasionally. Just be aware if you are scent sensitive!
Great place to stay!
Great value in a clean and nice place to spend a night
Ritchie's place was cozy and warm as we weathered out a pretty intense winter storm. Stayed warm and had power and internet without interuptuion. Our car was packed behind a snow bank in the morning and thankfully Ritchie plowed us out.
Great little cabin! Super cozy and warm. Host was very kind and responsive. We had everything we needed and more.
Nice cozy cabin on a lake. My wife and I hope to back in the summer.
Stayed here for a weekend in the winter to ice fish and loved it! Was perfect for 2 people and very clean. Would be a great place to stay in the summer too. Right on the water and close to 2 local restaurants/bars and general store. Only 10 minutes from Mackinaw City. Host responded quickly and was friendly! Would definitely stay again!
Had a wonderful stay here while planning to visit the Upper Peninsula, it was so peaceful and beautiful to look out on the lake! Ritchie was helpful and so kind! Quickly responded and very obviously takes care of the space
Cute and cozy cabin perfect for a quick winter weekend getaway. Really enjoyed our stay! Ritchie was quick to respond, and very kind on our arrival. Would love to book this place to enjoy it in the summer months
We recommend this cute little cabin on the lake! Clean & cozy, & the wintertime price can’t be beat! Ritchie was responsive, friendly, & flexible.
We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful view of the lake. Very nice cabin with all the modern amenities.
I found Cabin #5 to be cozy, quiet, and met all of my needs! It is close to local restaurants and about 20 minutes from Mackinaw City. Ritchie was very responsive and helpful with any questions. I will definitely be back!
Definitely worth the stay if you’re the outdoorsy type. Super great, even just for staying in. We even got snowed in but the heaters were great. The sky view was amazing over the lake ✨⭐️. 🙂
I absolutely loved the cabin, it was incredibly cozy no matter how cold it was outside. It was awesome looking out at the frozen lake and seeing fisherman out there. In the winter a lot was closed but the restaurants and stores that we’re open were great. I loved my time in this rustic cabin and can’t wait to come back again. Thank you Ritchie for all the work you’re doing to maintain and improve them. Also, the Internet was blazing fast.
Very cozy and peaceful cabin on a gorgeous lake. We only stayed one night so we didn't use anything reallybut the power went out while we were sleepin so the water didn't work but Ritchie immediately came over to fix it. Very friendly and responsive host.
Cute little cabin on the lake. Ritchie was very responsive. Would visit again!
Perfect place to stay after a day of hiking! Very quiet and relaxing and loved the cozy cabin to unwind and warm up in. Great location for getting to different trails in the area and we definitely will be keeping this place on our list when we come back up! Check in was so easy and smooth as well as checkout. Was very happy that my pup was allowed and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg as that’s our biggest trouble finding places to stay! Thank you for having us 🙂
Loved it!
A quaint rustic cabin with all the basic amenities you need. Beautiful old knotty pine walls and ceilings and 2 nice fireplace type heaters. I was toasty and comfy and it was only a block or so off my traveling path. Would definitely stay there again. Ray
We had a great stay here. Ritchie was very friendly and the cabin was what we needed for a comfortable night's stay.
Great place! Cozy cabins. Awesome location, right next to a lake. Great price. Easy trip to Mackinac island. I definitely recommend it.
The cabin and fire pit are right next to the water, the scenery was amazing.
We loved the little cabin and once we remembered we could turn up the heat it was nice and toasty! The host was very accommodating and helpful with all of our questions. It was in a good location where we never felt too far from everything but it still felt close to nature. We had no issues and all of our neighbors were all very considerate.
Had a great one night stay, the views are worth the booking alone. A covered porch overlooking the lake carp is a great thing to experience. Very cozy cottage that was very charming. They are older cottages (that's the charm) but mine was very clean. Bed was great. Roku TV and WiFi worked well. It was nice to see the other families near their campfires as I enjoyed mine. Loved that I could walk to the bar across the street to get a quick bite and the general store was only a 5 min walk. I hope to be back!
d
This is exactly what it claims to be: an old resort made up of cabins which now must be 70 or more years old. Necessities are provided but if you're in for a long stay you might want your own linens. Porch and firepit right on the lake. General store, a bar and grille, and a casual dining restaurant within walking distance. Strong wifi! Friendly and helpful communication from the host.
Everything was great
really nice , great veiw
Ritchie’s cabins are a true reminder of how many remember what it was like to spend happy weekends at the lake with family. As these precious little cottages are destroyed forever to make room for mega resorts and grossly extreme homes, Ritchie has saved these almost 100 year old treasures. If a little sand on the floor or a cobweb or two offends you, then it might not be for you. If you love nostalgia then don’t miss out on a stay in one of these little gems.
This cabin was perfect! We loved the location, the quaintness, the beautiful lake, etc. We took a day trip up to the UP, enjoyed the Dark Sky Park, saw beautiful sunrises over Lake Paradise, kayaked, etc. The place had a small cabin feel but was very clean and comfortable. Ritchie was pleasant, communicative, and greeted us upon arrival. We loved everything about our stay, would highly recommend it to friends and family, and will absolutely be back next summer!
Nice small cabin right on the water, food and beverages within 1 block.
This is a perfect spot for boaters, fishermen and anyone who’s old enough to remember a rustic cabin on the lake from a generation or two back. Just off the highway yet remarkably quiet, sparse but adequate amenities, right on beautiful Carp Lake. Host Ritchie is working constantly to improve the property and keep the tradition alive. We met the granddaughter of the couple who built the cabins in the 30s, enjoying a family reunion. Fun times!
This was my second time at Ritchie's Cabins. Again, Both my Fiancee and I really enjoyed our stay. The cabin has everything you would want for a quick getaway. Great location! Ritchie is very nice and is always available. 5 stars!
Ritchie is a phenomenal host that went the extra mile to make us feel right at home. There are so many fun packed activities to take advantage of within a manageable driving distance. We greatly enjoyed our stay and are already planning our second trip here in hopes that we can replicate the excellent experience. Book today!
This cabin was everything we were looking for. The location was 10 minutes from mackinack island and right on the lake. We brought our pup with us and he loved it as well. It had everything we needed for our short vacation and Ritchie was available at any time. Would definitely book again!
This is a good place to land with an amazing location just feet from a lake. Even though the cabins are old, they are clean with all the basics, and its a million dollar view.
Ritchie is responsible and friendly. The cabin is quite and sweet. We had a great time!
Loved carp lake and the cabin, the owners description very accurate. Only regret is rainy weather.
Great stay, host was so helpful and accommodating with our last minute and late check in! Cabin was super cute, we will be back!
Ritchie was a great host and the location was a great get away from the city and if you're a stargazer you wont want to leave.
Cutest cabin. Bathroom sink was so clean i didn’t wanna mess it up
Ritchie was flexible with our check in and was there to greet us when we arrived. He took the time to warm up the cabin for us which we appreciated greatly especially considering we arrived on a cold april night. we really enjoyed our stay and would gladly stay again the only issue we had is that we bought ice cream and it melted in the freezer so be mindful of that if you stay here but Ritchie perfectly described all amenities provided in the cabin aswell as what we should expect to bring which was appreciated. If you are looking for a relaxing cabin getaway at the shore of a lake in a small town in northern michigan you can not go wrong with staying at this cute bnb.
Amazing cozy cabin with a beautiful lakefront view. Ritchie was a lovely host.
this place is an awesome stop! we spent a night in the early spring and had a great time despite all the snow. there's a beautiful view and plenty of room for two people to relax and unwind, especially after a long drive.
Absolutely loved it! Stayed warm during 14 degree weather. TV is Roku with Netflix available. The cabin was really comfy and we really enjoyed it. It was a great place to stay, and Ritchie was really welcoming and kind. It was a pretty laid-back experience! I would totally recommend.
It's an old cabin and very rustic but comfortable. The bed was comfy and the shower was nice. The owner was friendly and accommodating. The veiw is great. I've stayed in cabins all my life around the country. I would stay here again.
Cozy, beautiful view, and wonderful host. Personable owner, Richie, goes above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. What a nice retreat.
We LOVED our stay. It was last minute but definitely worth the risk! Will be returning in the summer if possible. ❤
literally perfect!
Last minute booking which provided a cozy spot for us to rest for the night. Small rustic cabin with a few modern upgrades and basic kitchen essentials. Responsive host.
Description exactly matches plus great location! 5/5
Nice!
A cozy little cabin with a beautiful lakefront. The Wifi was also good. Great for 1-2 people who don't have a ton of stuff to bring.
This place is a hidden gem and super cozy for our overnight stay during the winter time.
The host kindly provided us extra blanket but the heaters in the cabin are definitely sufficient to keep us warm.
The view of sunrise over the lake with birds flying across is worth million dollars.
Highly recommend this place for a winter gateway.
Nice place to stay
Everything was great, the only thing was that the heater was a little loud and it would wake me up in the night.
Super location. Sleeping and waking 50 ft from the lake was incredibly relaxing. Ritchie met us as soon as we arrived and checkout was totally painless, too.
Perfect cabin for two. We had a wonderful stay & will be coming back. Richie was very friendly & knowledgeable.
Nice location right on the lake.
This cottage is very small. It was perfect for us as we spend all our time outdoors anyway. Very clean and neat. The porch is nice too.
Cabins are great!! Just a few feet away from the lake and stumbling distance from our new favorite bar, Clydes! Highly recommended
Idyllic.
Nice cozy cabin on the lake. Beautiful views right on the water. We got lucky when it wasn't too hot, but the room could get uncomfortable if it was any hotter out. A fan in the bedroom would help. Your cabin neighbors are also very close, so if you are looking for quiet it depends on your neighbors.
Ritchie met us as we pulling up late at night and gave up advice! Amazing fishing lake near Mackinaw!
Our host was very nice and helpful. We would rent from him again without a hesitation.
This was a wonderful stay! We came to celebrate our high school graduation for a few days and it was peaceful, relaxing, and a very well kept space. Definitely will return 10/10.
Had a great time at Ritchie's cabin. He was very attentive, flexible, communicative, and made our stay a pleasure! He even let us try bringing out dog in the kayak and wasnt going to charge us if the dog ended not wanting to get in the kayak (he did get in it and rode with us for 40 minutes). We'll absolutely be booking with Ritchie again in the future!
I had a very nice stay! Very cute cabin!
Fantastic host and location!
Very nice gentleman everything we talked about was exactly what he said we will definitely do business with this man again
A very nice place to stay, lake side cabin with a great view and fire pit. I will definitely be revisiting!
Tiny but clean! The location is very good, lake is beautiful! The only thing is I need to throw the trash by myself, first time in my Airbnb experience.
Cabin is right on the water with a beautiful view. All your essentials are covered (towels, blankets, pots and pans, coffee maker) so you can just come and relax. Close to Mackinaw City if you want to shop and eat as well as some great parks and trails to explore. I managed to get up to watch the sunrise and it was worth it. Lovely place and a great host!
Cute cabins right on the water, will definitely be staying again in the future!
Ritchie was a very polite host during my wife and I's two year anniversary. Upon arrival he should us around and created a very welcome atmosphere. He offered locations to dine and for site seeing, and even lent us an axe to chop fire wood for the evening. The cabin was very clean and in neat order, we enjoyed our get away vacation to relax and enjoy each other's presence in nature and carp lake. 10/10 review and I would recommend staying at Ritchies cabins if you would like to enjoy Macinaw City or the island as the city is only a 10 minute drive.
This was a great value for off-season travel. The cabin was cozy and the lake view from the windows and porch was so peaceful. If you’re visiting in cold weather, I do recommend bringing some extra blankets and warm clothing. The cabin had all the amenities I could have wanted and it was close to many state parks as well as the bride and Mackinaw.
This is a great spot, whether you're into camping and the outdoors or just want a quiet place to relax. It's very affordable and offers a wonderful view of the lake from right outside your back door. The host is onsite and approachable and quick to help with any questions or issues. Both of the nearby restaurants -- Clyde's Place and Harbor Lights Grille -- have large menus and friendly staffs. Sturgeon Bay Beach and Mackinaw City/Mackinac Island are fun to explore. As a lifelong Michigan resident, this trip also had me crossing the bridge for the first time! A great time. Fun and relaxing. Book this place while you can as it's a popular spot!!
The cabin is small and RIGHT on the lake. Ritchie has plenty great recommendations. Check out Petoskey, it’s a 25/30 min drive from the lake.
Overall great stay, beautiful geographic location.
Cute quiet place to stay. Very clean.
wonderful place right on a incredibly beautiful lake. The cabin is great, the perfect example of a old time cabin your grandparents or great grandparents could've retreated too. Ritchie is a wonderful host and has created a splendid place to come and relax. Lakeside is so close to Mackinaw city and so many other beautiful sites to visit it was the perfect base for exploring the area. we stayed two very quite relaxing nights and I would've stayed a week. Ritchie provided every thing we needed but we did bring some perfered namely our own toilet paper. The Wi-Fi was good in the cabin and the TV was just fine with access to all the streaming app and it even erases all or login information after your stay. It's a wonderful rustic cabin feel but with some modern touches like the nice updated bathroom, beautiful little propane fireplace stove that kept us nice warm. Eventhough the weather was cold and rainy this little cabin was a real paradise and took me back to a different time. now understand this place was built a long time ago and has the things that come along with that, So don't come expecting not to deal with dirt, bugs, and other things an old cabin by a lake may have but that's exactly what makes this place so perfect, authenticity it's the real deal. wonderful place at a economical price. I can not recommend Lakeside Cabins enough, Ritchie was a great host and was only just a text away if we needed anything. This is the Cabin by the Lake you are looking for.
Wonderfully cute cabins right on the lake made for an amazing sunset and sunrise.
Highly recommend.
Ritchie was very responsive and accommodating. The cabin was so cozy and right on the water; perfect for watching the sunrise! I would definitely return to this cabin.
Wonderful place to stay! Can’t wait to go back again; it’s so beautiful
This was a great place for a quiet getaway.
Cute little cabin, right on the water.
This is a great value. The cabins are cozy and right on the water. We visited in April 2021, and the enjoyed the screened-in porch immensely. It can be chilly at night, but some warm loungewear and a few blankets are more than enough. We also brought our cat, and the space worked great for him.
Location: Excellent, 15 min from Mackinaw City, the Dark Sky Park, a Family Dollar for some groceries. Quiet but doesn't feel isolated, amazing views of Carp Lake.
Amenities: Dishes/silverware for 2 people. Pots/pans/pizza tray. Oven with 4 gas burners. No teapot, if that's important to you. Small Keurig available. Fridge/freezer has enough room for more than a week's worth of food.
Misc: I recommend buying a few gallons of water from Family Dollar/etc. if you aren't used to a more rural water supply. Shower worked great. I recommend slippers for inside, since floors might get some dirt/sand from going in and out.
Really an excellent base location for a trip north, with lots of local hiking/lakes to explore. Great value and Ritchie is a kind host, with lots of local recommendations.
Just the right amount of space for two people, would absolutely recommend
Great cabin getaway with a nice lake view! Definitely enjoyed my time here and looking forward to coming back!
It was a cozy little cabin on the lake with a fireplace a cute little screened in porch and also a fire pit ♡Ritchie was very pleasant and welcoming even when checking us in at 930pm,we will definitely be back ♡
Great view, Very Good for Intimate time with a significant other.
Ritchie was a wonderful host. He was very responsive to messages and had his place set up to be safe during a pandemic. The cabin had everything we needed in it, and despite the temperatures being in the single digits, was nice and warm! Thank you for providing such a nice space during a much-needed long weekend. I will definitely be staying here again when I'm in the area.
Mitigwa is extraordinarily charming and cozy. The gas stove heater is perfect for the space, the kitchen is tidy and clean, and the bathroom is updated and quaint. It’a perfect for a solo retreat space, or a romantic getaway!
Cute and cozy cabin, right on the water, perfect for a weekend get away. Plenty of space for two, stays nice and warm in the winter. Seems like it would be awesome in the summer too, so will definetly plan on coming back 🙂
