Cabin #4 - "Hackmatack"
Named after a type of pine tree found in the Northeastern United States and Canada, this cabin is similarly named to it's sister cabin. With 2 bedrooms and 449 sq ft, it's a wonderfully snug size for a small group of friends.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the early 1930's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and air conditioning wasn’t even thought of at that time. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.
All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.
This cabin is 449 sq ft and sleeps a family of 6 utilizing 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and a futon in the living room. There's a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 11’x6’ enclosed porch overlooking the lake is the perfect spot for watching children at play in the water.
Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Highly recommend! Ritchie was great.
over-all I had a great expierence staying at this property (cabin #4)! All the cabins not only have their own fireplaces out back but are all right off Lake Paradise, such a breathtaking view. While the cabins themselves are very old and amenities outdated, they are still very cozy and cute and a much more fun experience than staying in a regular ol' hotel or house. All the amenities worked just fine except for the heating unit in the bathroom but that was no issue because Ritchie brought us an extra mini heater to use and the main heating unit in the living area worked just fine! Ritchie was as accommodating as possible making sure there werw dishes and cooking utensils available and had a very quick response time for any questions or concerns we had! Thanks Ritchie, I'll be back this summer!
This is a great venue for particular wants. Would be a great late spring/early summer early fall place. Although very rustic most ordinary needs are met nicely. The list of supplies you should bring should be carefully looked at.
Beautiful view. Convenient location to go Mackinac Island. Dog friendly.
The cabin was okay. It is as pictured. Plenty of room and the screened in porch is nice. There is no A/C as listed but opening the windows didn’t do much even though it was cool out. Also, the floors were filthy. There was so much sand it tracked into the beds as well. The amount of dirt/sand on the floors & beds was a turn off. I think the cabin was a bit expensive for the quality, but it got the job done for the night.
Nice rustic cabin with very easy access to Mackinaw
Ritchie was there to greet us & easy to find later when we had questions. This is an adorable very rustic -but well stocked with essential dishes for an overnight- old fashioned cabin...just as advertised! Nothing fancy...but still comfy! The lake view is uninhibited & full of wild fowl in the evening & also at dawn. I loved it!
excelente lake view! cozy place
Superb location and view. Accurate description and great instructions about packing and so on. Wilderness State Park is truly within 15 minutes.
We’ll be back!
What a great little gem in northern Michigan. Will stop again.
Our stay was absolutely lovely! The space was comfortable and beautiful! We can’t wait to come back in the summer when the weather gets a little nicer! 🙂
Richie was great. He was very accommodating. I was going to be late and contacted him and he was perfectly fine with me being a little late coming there. I love the space. The stay was in great location. If it hadn’t been for slight cloud cover I would’ve been able to see the aurora borealis but Richie knows a photographer who posted pictures of the auroras during the same time my stay and showed me before I left and it was amazing.
Such a cozy quaint cabin in a beautiful location!
A little slice of paradise. Ritchie was very accommodating and kind. Would highly recommend staying in this cute cabin resort.
Such a cute, homey place right on the water! Looking forward to another visit!
Ritchie's cabin is at a beautiful location right by Carp Lake. The view early in the morning was one of the best I've seen ever. The cabin is really cute and has all the necessary amenities required. I would give this Airbnb a 5/5 rating.
Great for warm weather not for colder weather.
This place is worth visiting just to sit on the porch with coffee and watch the sunrise. Every moment is breathtaking! It’s in a central location to take in sights and activities in lower Michigan as well as the UP. It’s also nice to be able to save some $ and cook a few meals at the cabin instead of going out all the time. Ritchie is always available if you need anything, but also respects your privacy. We will no doubt be back!
Ritchie is an excellent host. The cabin is cute positioned on the shore of Lake Carb. This is a perfect stay for a young family who would enjoy a camp fire on the shore, fishing, boating and touring in the area. Pets are welcome.
Spent one night at Cabin #4 with a couple of friends and it was great. The location is great and exactly 9 mins from Mackinaw City ferry to Mackinac island. The cabin is directly on the water with a nice fire pit that. Honestly, it's the perfect place for a nice relaxing getaway. Ritchie is very nice and he greeted us at the door. He was available to answer any questions and was very helpful. I will definitely plan to come back in the future. 5 stars!
Overall it was great the cabins we a bit close together for my liking you could hear the neighbors talking from inside. But it was close to everything and a fun experience!
Had a great time! Seeing our boys jump off the dock and swimming with them was priceless. Our 6 year old kept saying, “best vacation ever!” Thank you for letting us in early too! We can’t wait to come back. Keep up the great work.
The cabin is a pleasant reminder of how lake life used to be. The cabin has everything you need for a trip up north. We found the beds really comfortable and the fire pit was great. The shower is a bit small if you are a bigger person (I am 6'3" and 240 lbs, so it was a little tight).
rustic cabin on a beautiful Lake close to Mackinaw City.
Thanks
