Cabin #2 - "Kitch-iti-kipi"
Kitch-iti-kipi (KITCH-i-tee-KI-pee) means "big cold water". This cabin is named after Michigan's largest natural freshwater spring in Schoolcraft County. A popular destination for guests staying here at Lakeside Cabins.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the late 1920's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and air conditioning wasn’t even thought of at that time. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.
All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.
This one room cabin is 202 sq ft and sleeps 2 people in the queen size bed which adjoins the kitchen and dinette. The bathroom is simple, the shower is warm and the kitchen has everything to cover your basic needs. The spacious 10’x7' enclosed porch overlooks the water. A perfect area to enjoy a quiet evening watching the loons.
Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Beautiful location, truly a step back into a simpler time yet with good wifi! We loved the location right on the lake with beautiful sunrise and the sound of loons. Cozy cabin accurately described in listing. Very clean, comfy bed and clean updated bathroom. Easy biking to Mackinaw city, Petoskey, and beyond via well maintained and marked bike trails. Local community was warm and welcoming. When you stay here be sure to stop by Clyde’s bar.
Wonderful setting. Enjoyed the lake breezes and ambiance. Would definitely return when we are back in the area!!!
The cabin is lovely and environmentally friendly. The attached patio of the cabin is facing to the Lake Paradise that I can stay indoors watching the lake. Most importantly, the cabin is so clean and the shower is great! The warm water washed away my stress and I had a nice sleep! Will stay here again in the future!
Ritchie was wonderfully responsive to all my questions and proactive in communicating instructions and even a packing list. As noted in the description, this cabin is located in a string of cabins so the only thing lacking here in my opinion was enjoying the scenery in quiet peace. But we had great neighbors who even shared their coals with us to cook our dinner. All in all it was a great experience. About a 2 minute drive to a small general store and 10 minutes from Mackinaw City. It's a good location to get around and see the sights.
Quaint cabin! Clean and had a beautiful view just steps from the water! Will stay again.
Cute, quaint cabin right on the lake. Ritchie is a fantastic host and we loved being literally right on the lake. Would love to visit in the winter for that especially unique northern Michigan vibe. Thanks for having us!
Great Lake view!!!
Ritchie is very responsive and accommodating.
We had a great night !
Better than described. Loved it
very peaceful and quiet. Ritchie was very helpful with questions we had. Came right out to greet us when we arrived!
Fantastic location, welcoming and accommodating host, just a great cozy spot all around. Great access to the UP and Mackinac Island!
Ritchie’s cabin is such a beautiful place to stay. We were sad to leave only after one night passing through on our roadtrip. Very peaceful & beautiful on the lake. Just as described. Hope to stay again.
.
We loved our visit, the cabin was awesome and right on the water!
This place is exactly as described; It's not the ritz, rather, it is an enchanting, quiet and comfortable place to get away. I highly recommend staying here!
Ritchie was a great host. He meet us upon arrival with a big friendly smile, directions to the key, and local information. The little cabin we rented was just what we needed to relax. From the first view around the diamond in the roughs 1920’s heart throb of a cabin. It made my history loving heart leap as I felt “Home”. I read the what you should bring list and made it my own. I brought my own cute cabin sheets, my hand made quilt and and some hot tea. We laughed and laughed as my husband finally realized how poor buddy the elf felt living with papa elf. (The shower is tiny) But I highly recommend you hand that partner that’s a little full sized a towel and snap a picture to always laugh about over it in times to come. I highly recommend anyone wanting to experience the UP North’s beauty with out breaking the bank these are the cabins. It was only a beautiful 15 minute drive to the bridge. We will absolutely be back maybe yearly. Thank you for sharing this beauty with us
We really enjoyed our time at this adorable cabin. It was clean and cozy and the location was great! We loved waking up to the sunrise on the water and the sound of waves right outside the door. We’d definitely stay here again!
We enjoyed this cozy cabin and the location was peaceful and great for our other day trips.
beautiful location, cozy stay
Excellent small cabin right on the lake! Would definitely stay again. This is a great option near Mackinac Island.
Richie is a great host. His cabin on Paradise Lake is clean and has the basics for a comfortable stay. Enjoyed sitting on the couch in the enclosed porch, looking out at the lake.
Nice little rustic cabin with a real up north feel, loved listening to the waves as we went to sleep. Everything was just as advertised, great host.
The cabin was perfectly located for our hikes in Wilderness State Parks and on into the UP. Cabin is exactly as listed.
Beautiful view convenient location to Mackinaw City
Old rustic cabin in need of update of dishes towels etc
No a/c
Cabins are very close to one another. Privacy can be compromised (neighbor walked in on us wo invitation bc she wanted to see inside our cabin)
My friend and I loved staying at the cabin on Carp Lake. I woke up to an amazing sunrise. Bed was very comfortable, well furnished, and perfect for a rustic stay. As the listing mentions, there isn’t a ton of privacy outside because of other guests in other cabins. Didn’t bother us at all though! On my list for recommendations for people taking a UP trip.
Ritchie was very welcoming and provided many options for sites to visit and places to hike. He was very familiar with the area and I could tell that he really loved the 7 cabins on the lake. When we arrived, he greeted us and showed us the lay out of the other cabins that he had been working on. It was a perfect little getaway for a relaxing and much needed vacation. The locations of the cabin was extremely convenient. The location was 10-30 mins from almost everything we wanted to do during our stay. There was a cute little General Store within walking distance for our basic needs and the food at Harbor Lake Grille (also within walking distance) was delicious! The cozy lake front cabin was perfect! The only thing I did not like was the fact that we could not stay longer! I hope I can take another vacation at this place again soon! Thanks for everything Ritchie!
We loved it. Very rustic & a perfect location. Kitchen
was well stocked for meal prep. Lake was gorgeous. The only thing I wish I would have brought was a small sweeper for the area rugs. We’ll be back!
This would be a superb location for a fishing holiday. For a couple it is to small. However, the host was very clear as to the size so it wasn’t really his fault that the space didn’t meet our needs. I would recommend it for a low cost alternative but be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Wonderful location . He was gone most of the time we were there but since we had no problems that was fine and we had no problems to speak of.
Ritchie's Cabin on Carp Lake was a wonderful getaway! We had a great time at the cabin as well as the nearby Mackinac Island! The cabin was fully furnished and Ritchie was very helpful, providing a detailed list of what was provided in the cabin and what we would need to bring. Carp Lake was gorgeous, and it is definitely worth visiting and staying at Ritchie's Cabin.
Loved it!
I absolutely loved my stay here! I stayed in cabin #2, which was adorable and also stayed perfectly cool throughout the day. Being able to watch the sunrise right over the lake was amazing! The cabin itself was very clean and Ritchie was a very responsive host!
Awesome spot right on the water. Close to everything you need for a great stay.
Great location & great host!
Richie’s place is always amazing every time we stay, the lake with the cabin is such a great get away
We had a great time here. It’s a very cute cozy cabin. The views of the carp lake are amazing and it’s very close to Mackinac island ferry stop. The cabin was perfect for two people with all the amenities like gas, microwave, refrigerator etc. Ritchie was great at communication and everything went smooth. We surely will be back.
One of my husband and I’s new favorite spots ever. The most quant vintage little cabin with everything you need but still the simplicity of a relaxing get away experience, Such a vibe
This Cabin is cozy and perfectly situated for a lovely morning view of the lake as well as being near Mackinac city and many of Michigan's Upper Peninsula sights. Ritchie is very friendly and quick to respond to any concerns or questions! Would definitely stay here again as it is perfect whether the weather is cold or warm!
This is such a beautiful location and view. We spent all day at the fire pit right outside our cabin at the base of the lake. The cabin is nicely furnished. The best part of the experience is thanks to our host, Ritchie, who is extraordinarily responsive to any question or issue that arose. We are so grateful to him and will really look forward to returning. Miss it already!
Super cozy cabin and beautiful lake views
Beautiful space. Great cabin. Best of both nature and comfort.
I have zero complaints for Lakeside Cabins. The area is beautiful, the food is great and the things to do in the area are fun! Ritchie is an awesome communicator, and a kind host. I’m already counting the days until I come back.
the sunrise is amazing in the mornings
Nothing against the pictures on the listing, but it is so much better in person! Clean, convenient, warm, and quiet! We loved the place! One of the best cabins we have stayed in. Perfect for a romantic getaway. The water on the lake is so clear!
What a sweet little step back in time! The vintage vibe really felt really cool...bed was really comfortable and all the basics were there to meet our needs. Woke up to a beautiful sunrise while we ate our breakfast at the little table looking out over lake. A unique stay...I can imagine in the summertime that it is awesome to sit on the little porch with the sounds of people enjoying the water drifting across the lake 🙂 Thanks Ritchie!
Cottage is a little rough and could be cleaner. Location is outstanding. You cannot be closer to the lake. $25 pet fee is high but our dog enjoyed it
Adorable cabin; rustic but with all the amenities needed and right on the water. Terrific view of the lake and sunrise from the porch. We'll be back.
Cabin is exactly as advertised. Clean and cozy, and very nostalgic feel. View was amazing, and Ritchie was very helpful.
Great place, great location. Very clean, and a beautiful view. Ritchie is great and is always willing to help.
This place is an unexpected diamond. Sleeping listening to the water wash up on the shore at Paradise Lake was dreamy, and Ritchie was so accommodating with our late check-in. The #2 cabin was everything you need for a romantic stay, and we enjoyed this as the last stop on our road trip.
I LOVE this little cabin! The lake is pretty, the other guests were super friendly, and Ritchie couldn’t have been a better host. The luxury of this place is in the simplicity and nostalgia - way harder to achieve than a high thread count!
Wonderful place to stay just a few steps from the lake. Get up early to watch the sunrise as it is absolutely gorgeous. The cabin had everything we needed for a really enjoyable stay. It does give you a camping experience. Will definitely come back if we pass through this way again in the future.
This is the perfect cozy little cabin situated right next to a lake. We enjoyed our stay very much. We found it to be peaceful and quiet, just what us cities gals were looking for. It’s also only a 12 minute drive from Mackinaw City so plenty of other things to do as well. The cabin was clean and has a small kitchen for your cooking needs. Our host was easy to reach and friendly. Our only complaint is that we didn’t book an additional night. We definitely plan on coming back!
This cabin has a gorgeous view and is so perfect and cozy you won’t want to leave! Perfect get away location for two and very Conveniently placed by a yummy walkable restaurant/pub and short drive to Mackinac city/bridge/ferry! Will be returning!!
Ritchie was a fantastic host and the cabin on Carp Lake was perfect. We were so close to the water, you could hear it while laying in bed. The cabin was equipped with what was listed so we knew to bring a few things. Ritchie was friendly and welcoming. Putting our kayaks right in the water was a dream. We will absolutely go back again and are already talking about when.
We enjoyed our stay very much! Cabin #2 was rustic in a very charming way and just as described! Loved being right on the water and the screened in porch was wonderful in the morning to watch the sunrise!
Fantastic - beautiful views, rustic and straight-forward.
Great host/communication.
We had a wonderful stay and Ritchie was a very accommodating host. He greeted us upon arrival and checked in with us throughout our stay. Cabin #2 was a perfect little cozy haven for a couple and felt roomy enough at the same time. Can't beat a lake view either! We would stay there again in the future - definitely recommend!
Beautiful cabin in a beautiful location.
I had a fantastic stay at Ritchie's cabin. It is right on the lake, with beautiful views. It is a very small and simple cabin. Nothing fancy, and that added to the charm. It was easy to rent a kayak, and we enjoyed our campfire and biking all around the area. Highly recommend.
Great place for the price! Clean!
This is a GREAT location! We loved everything about it. I can’t wait to to go back 🙂
The cabin we stayed in was extremely clean and cute! Had an amazing few of the lake, cute little screen room and everything on the front with a great view. Ritchie was there to meet us with the keys and had it all ready to go. Check out was very simple too!
The cabins are located right next to the water and are perfect for a weekend getaway!
The cabin was clean and cozy. The heat works very well. The view of the water from the cabin and porch was really nice. There was some unexpected construction noise and excessive leaf blowing all day on Saturday. We had come here to write which became difficult to do. Ritchie did the best he could to address our concerns and minimize the noise. The leaf blowing was an outside company and I assume it is not a regular occurrence.
Richie was a great communicator and was very fair.
We loved staying in cabin #2. Small, quaint and quite - perfect for the two of us and our weekend retreat. Very close to Mackinaw City making! Easy to visit the island, yet out of town far enough for a relaxing stay.
Ritchie was amazing to work with during our stay in Mackinaw City. We found his cabin to be perfect. Cute and cozy!
The owner Ritchie was very friendly and accommodating. I was looking for a place that was close to Mackinaw but not just another hotel room. The 1920's cabin was rustic but had plenty of hot water, a basic kitchenette, and was toasty snug on the unusually cold nights this June. The 1900 acre lake is gorgeous and was right outside our door. We definitely plan on coming back and I have already recommended this place to numerous friends.
All was simple and easy, comfortable, quiet. Perfect for fishing, boating and enjoying away from hustle and bustle in Mackinaw city.
Very relaxing
My wife and really enjoyed our stay we will be going to stay every year for Jeep the Mac trip thanks for having us see you next year
It was just my wife and I so we had the number 2 cabin which was the smallest one and we loved it. It was cloudy in the morning otherwise we would have seen the sunrise. The reason we went there was because we wanted to go to Headlands Dark Sky Park about 15 minutes away. And there is where you can watch the sunset and possibly the Moon going down as well. Harbor Lights Grill was only a minute One Direction down the road. This place definitely one of the coziest restaurants on the water I've been to. Everybody is friendly. At night we decided to go to Clyde's bar / restaurant. Didn't even make it out of second gear that was so close. One of the best pizzas we've had! That was a last-minute decision so it was late, music wasn't jamming and people were Rowdy but extremely friendly. I would honestly not want to eat anywhere else other than the two places mentioned the next time we go. I encourage people to look into these two restaurants so they were both great. Ritchie, the man who runs Lakeside Cabins is great as well. He knows the area and can direct you anywhere and gave us the idea to go to Boyne Mountain for free chairlift to look at fall colors and that was awesome. There, we went inside and had a couple drinks and then went back to the cabin. Can't wait to visit the place again. And oh yeah, you are right smack on the lake. Each cabin has Those galvanized burn rings to have a fire and you can cook over those too if you want. I'm sure I can include more butt getting ready for work
My husband and I did a two night stay and enjoyed our time! It was clean and the owner was very helpful. It was a nice cozy, quaint location. Just a short drive from Mackinaw city! We plan on visiting again!
If you are looking for a quaint and cozy cottage -- like the ones you went to when you were growing up, this is the place for you!! Ritchie has just acquired it and, is working hard to get it in the best possible shape (and doing a great job!).. Right on the lake (which has great fishing), fire pit, dock, boat launch next to the cabins and -- only 6 miles out of Mackinaw City!! Also, Lake Michigan is about a 15 minute ride (Wilderness State Park, as well as off road parking around the dunes)... If you are looking for a "Taj Mahal" type place, you should head elsewhere!! This place is for those who enjoy a little bit of "rustic" with good plumbing and close to a main highway! I plan on staying again!!! Thanks Ritchie for being a host that is willing to do a 2 night rental of a cottage!! Hard to find in Northern Michigan (most are week long rentals only)... I really appreciate that you are willing to do it!!! Will be loading some pictures to your Facebook page soon!!! 🙂
