Cabin #1 - "Chickagami"
A Native American word meaning “camp by the lake.” Chickagami is a fitting name for one of the first cabins built in 1929 along the shoreline of this small vintage resort currently known as Lakeside Cabins.
This Vintage Rustic cabin, primarily designed for the camping & fishing enthusiast, is just one cabin of a 7 cabin resort. This cabin was built in the late 1920's and holds every bit of that vintage character. It may be a little rough around the edges but this authentic cabin holds the wonderful allure of days gone by. Electrical outlets would have been added a few years later and air conditioning wasn’t even thought of at that time. Those details won't matter to the outdoorsy kind coming for the camping experience where lake activity fills your day and evenings are enjoyed around the campfire. This charming cabin has a knotty pine interior and all the basics to create an Up North camping style atmosphere. A lifestyle one will appreciate becoming acquainted with.
All the cabins are lined up next to each other along the shore of a beautifully serene lake. This close proximity to other cabins have traditionally created a friendly community style atmosphere where guests mingle and create lasting friendships. This is the kind of place where your grandparents brought your parents, your parent’s brought you, and you are now bringing your children to create beautiful memories while spending a nostalgic vacation in a familiar old cabin.
This cabin is 431 sq ft and sleeps a family of 6 utilizing 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and a futon in the living room. There's a kitchen with everything to cover your basic needs, a dinning space and a simple bathroom that includes a warm shower. The spacious 13'x7' enclosed porch overlooking the lake is the perfect place to enjoy your coffee and watch the morning sunrise.
Whether you are looking for a home base to camp at the lake or a base camp while you explore the area’s attractions, you will enjoy this cozy cabin and all its imperfections. More than anything, you’re gonna love the authentic charm and the carefree lifestyle that comes with camping Up North.

Beautiful morning sunrise with an instant swim out the door!! Thanks
Kind of rustic cabin. Nothing special about it but was clean, right on the water and had everything we needed.
Great!
The cabin was as described, ( a fishing cabin) easy to find, Ritchie was right there and communicated quickly.
We ended up with more people than we planned for and he was very gracious about it.
Great place beautiful lake
Such a unique little cabin to stay at! We loved our stay. We will be back next year!
We enjoyed our stay at Ritchie's cabin #1 by the lake! The location was great, Ritchie was very responsive and the cabin had all the basics covered. As some other commenters have noted, this is a rustic cabin, so don't expect everything to be brand new and perfect...this is a nearly 100 year old cabin after all. But for a rustic stay in a cabin by a beautiful lake, it's pretty nice
We were passing through and needed a place to stay with our dog. The cabin Is rustic - but that Is the charm. Well equipped and would be a perfect place for a small family to enjoy some relaxation by a lake.
Ritchie’s place was very serene. Being ON the water in Northern Michigan is pretty glorious! Ritchie having Wood and other amenities for sale on site was super convenient.
Rustic and well used over the years. Beautiful lake view. Richie was very friendly!
Very wonderful stay! Nice and cozy cabin with comfortable stay. Beautiful walk out to the back area and sunroom that overlooked the lake.
A very basic cabin. Fine for an overnight stop in the cold months. There would be lots to enjoy in the summer!
The cabin was a perfect place to stay for a short weekend getaway!
Great place to stay and very beautiful lake.
Muy bonito y agradable todo , volvería muchas veces
Wonderful rustic cabin in a beautiful spot overlooking Carp Lake—the sound of the waves killed us to sleep and greeted us in the morning. We regretted having only one night to spend—will definitely try to come again when we have more time!
We enjoyed our stay very much! The cabin is right on the lake and the loved the sunrises the best. Such a quiet place and it was great having the fire pit right outside the back door. Super comfy beds and loved the gas fireplace inside. We will be back!
Ritchie was a really nice guy so I feel bad about writing such a harsh review, but this place was beyond gross. I paid 150 a night, plus 50 a night for our dogs and I wouldn't come back to this place if you paid me. The description for this place is "rustic" but what they really mean is "dirty" and "not maintained". The most egregious thing would have to be the bathroom door that doesn't fully close giving anybody in the kitchen or living room a clear view of somebody on the toilet. Speaking of the toilet, it clogged on the first use and that's when I was greeted to a puddle of poop water in the plunger holder from the previous occupant. Cobwebs everywhere, busted screens on the front door, bedroom heater that doesn't work, living room heater that sounds like it's going to explode, bedroom sheets almost completely worn through, and a water heater with about 8 minutes worth of hot water. A lot of these things are simple fixes, but these guys are pocketing the money and not putting anything towards improving the customer experience. There are other places on this lake that are the same price and look leagues nicer. I'll be posting a review with a lot of pictures on other major sites as well.
My boyfriend and I loved staying here for a weekend! Such a cute & cozy cabin with a beautiful view. We are already talking about coming back.
The cabins are very cute, well kept, and had everything we needed to enjoy a little getaway. Ritchie is an extremely helpful and kind host!
Great location! Paradise Lake is right out the back door. The cabin is small and rustic but perfect for someone who wants to spend most of their time outdoors!
Great stay, so peaceful and wonderful scenery.
Great place right by Carp lake. Very quiet and clean. Ritchie was a very helpful host. My family and I had a great time.
Second stay !
Great spot on Lake Paradise with a nice sand bottom and gradual slope out to deeper water. Boat docks are provided for every cabin, and the DNR boat launch is right next door with a nice concrete ramp and a free power washer to wash off your boat. From here it's an easy 10-minute drive to Mackinac City, but within walking distance, you have two good restaurants. Cabins are rustic and charming. Well worth your vacation time to stay here.
Ritchie was totally 'Jonny on the spot" when it came to us texting or reaching out to him for things we needed assistance with. It was comforting that he lived right there onsite. His manner was friendly but also kept to himself in a way that allowed you your privacy. The place was amazingly clean. It is, as per his description, bare bones in terms of amenities...so make sure you read his 'What to Bring' List thoroughly. Would def visit again.
Great stay all in all with a nice host, beautiful and peaceful view, and outstanding accessibility to the lake. Accurate description of rustic, but amenities of the bathroom, kitchen, comfortable beds, and smart tv were all enjoyed. Everything was very clean.
Appreciated being able to include the fur-baby members of our family with us.
Bring a long extension cord for the bedroom(s) if you need bedside electronics such as fans, lights, or CPAP machines, as one bedroom did not have any electrical outlet and one bedroom just had one. Cabin did get warm while we were there, so a fan is a must-have in the bedrooms.
Very accurate description on website. This is a rustic cabin with additions to accommodate important things such as electricity and a bathroom! The lake was very peaceful. Love that there’s a fire pit too!
This is a great little cabin on the water.
Great location. Fair value, which could be greatly enhanced with some capital improvements to windows and doors. Absent lakefront location, cabin would not command price.
Nice cabin near lake view with kayaking facilities. Had a great time
The cottages are in very poor condition with rot in many structures.
Super peaceful and beautiful! Had everything we needed for our stay! Beds are super comfortable, great prices for what you get. Looks better in person than pictures. Ritchie is super sweet, and can tell you everything you need to know. We will be coming back next year.
we had a great time. the cabin, the lake... I could stay forever
Lovely stay directly on the lake. The cabin is very clean and the host is so kind. Thank you!
Great place to stay! Right on the lake.
Ritchie was a great host and always available for any problems we faced.
These cabins are very cute! The host is kind, flexible, and very helpful. I would 100% recommend staying at this place.
definitely will be repeating visitors and will recommend every chance I get
We had a wonderful time staying at cabin number 1. The host was very accommodating and answered all questions we had! Everything we needed was there. It had a beautiful view of the lake. Very rustic and simple so make sure you are into that before booking. Overall it was a great first family vacation with our 11 month old!
We would definitely book with him again!
Booked a last minute trip and this was a super great place to stay, it nice and cozy with an awesome view. Would love to go again, and I recommend staying here!
Ritchie was a fantastic host! Our stay was a last-minute change of plans dues to inclement weather, and it couldn’t have been a lovelier experience. Lakeside Cabins is right off MI-31 and super conveniently located to Mackinaw City, Big Mac, and all the fun touristy things that northern Michigan has to offer. The 1950s-era cabins are a little weathered and worn, but that adds to their charm. Clean, cozy, and a fabulous view of the lake. We’ll be back for sure.
Cute and quiet cabin with all the amenities to disconnect but still enjoy a wonderful getaway. This was my second time staying and I would recommend staying here. For those who are not familiar with the area bring all you need because the nearest grocery store or gas station is over 15 minutes away. The seclusion is also what makes this cute cabin wonderful.
Ritchie is an amazing host, recommend this location 100%
Adorable place with a great view. Just what we needed for a quick get away from the city. We had everything we needed and checking in was super easy.
Great cabin and view, will be back next year.
Cute cabin with a great view of Carp Lake. Ritchie was a great host. We had a very enjoyable stay.
Ritchie was a great host, very accommodating! The cabin was a perfect get away, and cuter than we even expected. We will definitely be back for a summer trip!
As always, a great stay! Love that we can bring the pups.
Great location and a great value! Our cabin was clean, comfortable, and had a beautiful view.
Amazing spot with a stellar view! Absolutely loved it!
Cute and cozy
Ritchie was very attentive and helpful.
Great host, very responsive. Water is beautiful and very peaceful.
I thought the place was great. If you're looking for a rustic, secluded getaway spot, this is the place for you. Beautiful lake access. A nice place to unwind. Very close to Mackinaw City if you want a little tourist time too.
Nice place for someone looking for a place that's rustic. Beautiful lake.
CRUCIAL INFO: don't forget to unlock the back door before you go out!
More interesting info: this is a wonderful cozy spot right on Paradise Lake shoreline. The sunroom is perfect to sit and have a meal if it's too chilly outside. There's an amazing fire pit and dock to walk out on. The cabin is nice and roomy, and all the essentials are included.
It's away from the hustle and bustle of Mackinac enough to be quiet and peaceful but close enough to get to in 10 minutes.
Our host Ritchie was absolutely amazing! He met us at check in and offered firewood and anything else we might need. He was very available and super responsive and have us great local recommendations. We'd definitely stay again on our way up north!
Ritchie is such an amazing host!
Ritchie was a very responsive host. Everything in the cabin was just as promised. Ritchie has obviously given a lot of thought to what is essential for a comfortable stay. So even though the cabin was simply furnished, all appliances were in great working condition, we had everything we needed and were especially grateful for the wifi and the powerful pro plunger.
The cottages are rustic as advertised and they are small. We needed a place at the last minute during the busy season so it worked out perfect for us. The cottages are right on the lake and the lake is beautiful. If staying for several days I could see how the noise due to the close proximity of the cabins to each other could be an issues as some reviews indicated.
Great stay for campfires, s’mores, fishing, and that good ole fashioned cabin feel. Thanks for having us!
The cabin was nice and comfortable, a little tight for our big family (2 adults, 4 children and an infant) but worked out fine. Ritchie was responsive and friendly. The location is very close to Mackinac Island if you plan to visit there. Water in Paradise Lake is very clean and we enjoyed watching sunrise right from the cabin. The price was a little high, but we booked only a week ago and it was the peak of summer vacation season.
Great little cabin getaway for a family. Enjoyed watching the ducks and woodpeckers. Comfy beds too.
Beautiful rustic cabins needs a few updates but the location and the host were amazing will stay here again.
Lovely cabin about ten minutes from Mackinac City and the ferries! We were a family of five and the rooms and beds accommodated us quite nicely.
Perks to enjoy:
-Kitchen and appliances
-Tv with different apps
- Beautiful views!
- fire pit and dock
- great communication with Ritchie
- comfortable beds
Cons:
- the hot water seemed to run out after the third person but during the summer time, it’s not quite an issue
These warm and cozy villas offer one of the best early morning/sunrise views I've seen. Just 10 mins away from Mackinac and it's hustle and bustle, so enjoyed the calm without being far from the city. Huge thumbs up. Lake is 10 feet from back door and property offers boat/kayak rentals. Our villa also had a fire pit and was well stocked with various barbeque accessories.
This was a cozy cabin on a beautiful lake! It was accurately described and comfortably slept 2 adults, 2 teenagers, and 2 small kids. It is right on the lake and had a small beach/sand area where my little ones were able to dig around. Ritchie was on-site, and was warm and welcoming! He had kayaks, canoes, and a smaller boat available to rent. It was an ideal stay for us while we were stopping on our way to Pictured Rocks for a trip to Mackinac Island (less than a 10 minute drive to the ferry). There were also a few local restaurants within walking distance. We would definitely come again!
Great view of the lake, nice fire pit, very small and quaint, great place to stay if your breaking up a long drive
Cozy cottage
This is a nice cabin located in a great location!
A great stay- loved the location on the lake.
The cabin was small but clean and right on the water. It had everything we needed for our short stay. We were close to Mackinaw City and Headlands Dark Sky Park so it was perfect for us.
We had such a wonderful time. The view was inspiring and beautiful, the weather was absolutely perfect and the accommodations were fine. We were very impressed with how wonderful it was and how nice the host was. Would definitely recommend them.
Basic cabins, but they have everything you need. Very friendly and accommodating owner. Perfect view of the lake! We will go again.
Owner was friendly. My husband and I would stay there again but was hoping it was something I was looking for the whole family.
